As some people may know I commute from my house, in Monroe, to UNCC. It is around a hour to hour and a half drive round trip, only if I don't have to take my mom to work before school. Needless to say it sucks! Most mornings I usually have to take my mom to work. I bet you're thinking, "Don't you have your own car?" The answer would be yes. My sister wrecked her car while taking her daughter to daycare and totalled her car. So now my mom, my sister, and I all share two cars. It is hell. Every night we figure out which of us needs a vehicle then coordinate who is taking my mom to work. Which is really not that hard to coordinate because it is always me. So I wake up around five fourty-five every morning and get ready for my day. At six fifteen or six thirty I ride with my mom to her office by the airport and drop her off. After I make sure my mom is situated in her office I embark on my thirty minute drive to UNCC. I usually get on campus about seven fourty-five and sit around until my first class which is at nine thirty on Monday's and Wednesday's. After I finish all of my classes I go eat and go somewhere to study and do some school work. When four thirty hits I drive back to my mom's office and wait until about six to drive home. At seven I finally get home and I'm able to attempt to relax but with three cats, one dog, and a two year old girl it is nearly impossible. So I feed the cats, walk my dog, play with my niece, shower, deal with figuring out our plans for the next day, work on more school work, then I finally get to go to sleep.
Everyday life in my world is crazy and extremely hectic. Sometimes...actually most of the time, I would love nothing more than to run away and be able to be nineteen year old college student. I would not change my life for the world though because I love my family and they help me when I need it so by helping them its the least I can do.
Wow so up until right now I was having a bad day. Your blog is colorful and exciting and it brightened my day just bit. Anyway, I think it shows a tremendous amount of character to do all these things day in and day out and still find it possible to be happy. Thank you for making my day just a little bit better.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you were having a bad day! Honestly after reviewing my post I felt like I was complaining so your comment lifted my spirits. Thank you.
DeleteAshley,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this post, I have a lot of respect for you. While I live on campus right now, I know what a LOT of that is like. I use to commute daily, 20-30 min drive, to Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina (where I'm from). I've got a dog (Gwen) and a cat (Maui) too. Love them both... they're like family. The hardest part about being down in Charlotte is missing them.
The drive can be tough, I have to hold back screaming about all the constant driving I do when I'm asked to give someone a ride.
DeleteOh I just love animals! What kind of dog do you have? My dog, Lucy, is a lab-chow mix. She is my world. I understand how hard it is to miss your animals. If I'm even at a friend's house for a night I rush home just to see them all.
She's mostly Belgian Malinois (kinda like a German Shepard).
DeleteI commute as well but my schedule is not nearly as hectic. I do have to sometimes take my brother to school, or my sister to work because she wrecked her car. I hope everything gets easier and It's awesome that you keep you head up the whole time.
ReplyDeleteWow... I'm glad to see that you haven't allowed all of that stop you from pursuing your education and what you want to do in life.
ReplyDeleteHey Ashley, I think its really cool that you do that for your family. I have a big family myself and I know what its like to rely on each other like you and your family does. I think its really cool that even though you have all this stuff going on you still seem to have a big smile every day.
ReplyDeleteWay to look out for your family, not a lot of people will take the time to help others out when in a situation like yours. Thats awesome that you guys have a system that works for you while only having two cars at the time. I would not want to get up that early in the mornings to sit around and wait, you have got some serious patience.
